Dave's Selected Classic Books for More Advanced Students

Modern Coin Magic

Modern Coin Magic

Coin magic is visually quite strong, but it can be difficult to master. If you are ready to move toward sleight-of-hand magic with coins, this book is the place to start.

Written by J.B. Bobo, a professional performer who specialized in school shows, Modern Coin Magic contains sleights and routines from the masters of 20th-century coin magic. This paperback edition is a truncated version of a larger book sold in magic shops under the title New Modern Coin Magic. If you want to get started, though, the shorter paperback version will give you enough homework to challenge you for years.

The Royal Road to Card Magic

The Royal Road to Card Magic

This book has been the starting place for serious card magicians for the past fifty years or so. It remains the basic introductory text for sleight-of-hand with cards.

Written by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue, Royal Road teaches the most important basic sleights in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. Each chapter introduces a new sleight and then teaches several tricks based on that particular technique. A number of the world's leading card magicians include material from Royal Road in their performing repertoires.
